Instructions

Step 1: Prep and Make Batter
  Heat oil to 375 degrees.
  Wash mushrooms.
  Optional: Slice mushrooms into 1/2 thick slices.
  Mix Flour, Cornstarch, Baking Powder, and Salt in bowl.
  Add water to make a batter.

Step 2: Batter Mushrooms
  Dip clean mushrooms into batter letting excess batter drip off.
  A toothpick or fork is recommended for this step.

Step 3: Add Breading
  Roll battered mushrooms in bread crumbs/panko to coat.

Step 4: Deep Fry
  Deep fry in oil at 375 degrees until golden brown.
  Roughly 5-7 minutes.
  If using sliced mushroom, fry for 1-2 minutes per side.

Optional Cooking Steps

Option 1: Beer Batter / Soda
  Coat mushrooms in dry flour mix.
  Add beer or sparkling soda to dry mix.
  Coat floured mushrooms in batter.
  Fry as usual.

Option 2: Parmesan
  Mix parmesan into batter and fry as usual.

Option 3: Egg
  Bread mushrooms like chicken strips – Flour, then Egg, then Dry mix.

Option 4: Butter Milk
  Coat mushrooms in dry flour mix.
  Dredge through buttermilk.
  Coat with 2nd coat of dry flour mix.
